Library Information for New Students: Library FAQs

This guide contains information about the Baylor Libraries and its resources. For students who are new to the libraries, this guide will help direct you to resources which will be help in your area of study.

Patron Self Check-out Stations

These are stations that allow library patrons to check out books on their own. In order to do this, you will need your Baylor ID card.  Your books will also need a Baylor Libraries bar code sticker on the back of each book.  This is usually located at the top on the back of your book.  Please note that this is different from the bar code that the book publisher puts on the book.  This code is located at the bottom on the back of the book.
Patron self check out stations are located on Moody 1st floor across from the Circulation desk and on Jones 1st near the information desk.

Ask a Librarian

The Ask a Librarian service connects you in real time with the information desk in Jones Library.  Here, a person can help you find resources for class projects, connect you with your subject librarian or answer questions cencerning library services.  Please note that for some research questions, a research appointment with your subject librarian may be needed.

Library Services and Resources

The following are library services or resources that are available to all Baylor students.

  OsoFast

If you find some information about a book or article that will help you in your research, but the Baylor Libraries don't own it - don't panic!  We have a department in the library (called InterLibrary Services) which provides a program called OsoFast through which you can request books and articles from other libraries. And it doesn't cost you anything!

If we don't have access to the full-text of an article either in print or online, click on the BUInfoLinks button located in the article record.  From there, click on "Request this article from OsoFast."  Log in with your Bear ID and password and submit your request.

Make sure to get your requests for materials in early.  While it depends on where the original materials are located, articles are generally received in electronic form 3-4 days after they are requested. Books and other physical materials are received within 4 days to 2 weeks after they are requested.

KIC Scanner

Need a copy of an article, a book page or picture?  Try the library's KIC scanners.  All you need is your item to scan and your USB drive.  Save a copy or print from your own computer.  It's fast and easy. You can access items on your flash drive on any library computer and then use pawprints to print.
