The first step in researching your industry is to find the correct name for the industry and the appropriate industry code. This is a good time to familiarize yourself with the current industry code. The NAICS (North America Industry Classification System) code is the new code that is taking the place of the old SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) code. The NAICS code works on a six digit classification scheme where the older SIC code used a four digit classification.
