Using Leganto Reading Lists in Canvas

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Course Reserves?

Course Reserves is a service for setting aside library materials for classroom use. This service includes Physical Course reserves, where print books are placed on 2-hour, 3-day, or 7-day loan periods for students to check out at the Moody Information desk. Electronic Reserves is also included in this service through the use of Leganto, a reading list software that enables instructors to add library resources such as articles, eBooks, audio/visual material and more to a list that can be accessed by students from within Canvas.

Other services provided include book chapter digitization, copyright clearance, and print/eBook acquisitions.

What if the Library does not have the resource I am using for my class?

The Course Reserves department can assist you in acquiring library resources such as print books, eBooks, articles, and audio/visual material that are not currently available in our collection. To submit an acquisition request, please refer to the Submitting Course Reserve Requests section of this guide.

Can I place personal copy books on course reserves?

Yes. Instructors can place personal copy books on reserve by bringing them to the Moody information desk on the 1st floor of the library. When submitting a personal copy book for reserves, please provide a note that includes your name, email address, which class it will be used for, and the semester(s) it is being used.

How long does it take to process course reserve requests?

At the beginning of the semester, the processing time for course reserve requests can take between 1-2 weeks. Once the semester is underway, the processing time is typically 3-5 days. Purchasing new material or obtaining copyright permission can take up to 4-6 weeks to process; however, so please submit acquisition requests well in advance of the semester start date. All reserve requests will be processed in the order in which they are received.

Is there a submission deadline for Course Reserve Requests?

The submission deadline for Course Reserve requests are listed below by semester:

  • Summer Semester: May 10th, 2024
  • Fall Semester: August 2nd, 2024
  • Spring Semester: December 18th, 2024

Course Reserve requests can still be submitted after the deadline, but there may be delays in processing due to the high volume of requests at the start of the semester.
