This guide will help senior chemistry majors complete their report for senior seminar

Choosing a Lead Article to Present (Spring 2025)

You will need to pick a lead article to present in your seminar.  You will write an abstract for this article and use this article as the basis for your report.

Make sure that you follow the specific parameters for your lead article that your instructor has set for your section.


The lead journal article for Dr. Chan's seminar students should come from calendar year 2022 and from the journals listed below.  You will write a summative (~200 word) abstract for this article.

The practice article for this section is Crystal Growth and Physical Properties of Hybrid CoSn–YCo6Ge6 Structure Type LnxCo3(Ge1–ySny)3 (Ln = Y, Gd)


The lead journal article for Dr. Lahousse's seminar students should come from calendar year 2020 and from the journals listed below.  You will write an extended (~400 word) abstract for this article.

The practice article for this section is Cytotoxicity of Mn-based photoCORMs of ethynyl-α-diimine ligands against different cancer cell lines: The key role of CO-depleted metal fragments.


The lead journal article for Dr. Pinney's seminar students should come from calendar year 2020-2023 and from the journals listed below.  You will write an extended (~500 words with optional figures) abstract for this article.

The practice article for this section is Bioreductively Activatable Prodrug Conjugates of Combretastatin A-1 and Combretastatin A-4 as Anticancer Agents Targeted toward Tumor-Associated Hypoxia.


The lead journal article for Dr. Shuford's seminar students should come from calendar year 2022 and from the journals listed below.  You will write an extended abstract for this article.

The practice article for this section is Activators of the Anticipatory Unfolded Protein Response with Enhanced Selectivity for Estrogen Receptor Positive Breast CancerArticle .


Tip:  You will want to make sure you can find other more recent articles by your corresponding author and articles by other research groups citing your lead article before you finalize your decision to use that article for your seminar.  You will use these other articles as part of your report.

For your seminar you may want to look at supporting articles for your lead article.

  • Look at the subject headings for your lead article.  Pick two or three subject you would like to focus on and then use those subject headings as search terms or combine those searches.
