Receive support, space, and/or funding through the Creative Project Grant!
We're excited to invite any Baylor University community member to apply for a grant to design and build a creative or innovative project using our spaces and equipment. Your project may be curricular or extracurricular, individual or group work, and should be designed to make some positive impact, for community or self. Examples could include a creative thesis, research, prototyping an invention, or solving a community problem. The library hosts audio-visual, immersive media, text-mining, mapping/GIS, CAD modeling, and making resources. Library staff are available for consultation prior to application by visiting the Garden Level of Moody Library or by making an appointment.
Potential award could include:
There's a new makerspace in town!
The Baylor Libraries have partnered with the Office of Innovation and Economic Development to create an exclusive workspace in the BRIC. The Innovation Garage is outfitted with a wide variety of making tools, including a laser, 3D printers, vinyl cutter, sewing machine, embroidery machine, soldering, and a collection of hand tools.
Access to the space is limited to only two teams at a time, allowing creators plenty of space to work and store their projects! If you'd like the opportunity to work in this exclusive environment, submit an application to the Creative Project Grant (above). After review, we will contact you to discuss the options!
Experience The Maker's Edge with a free pass once per semester!
For what we can't accomplish in the Garden Level of Moody Library, we partner with The Maker's Edge in Waco to provide Baylor students, faculty, and staff with one-month, all-access passes to their makerspace once per semester. The Maker's Edge boasts a large variety of tools, including a woodshop, welding, pottery, screen printing, and more!
Ready to get started? Email KJ Mikulencak to receive your digital pass!
If it's your first time making at Maker's Edge, keep in mind that you will need to go through their “Basic Orientation + Shop Safety” course before accessing any tools. After completing this short orientation course, you will then be able to sign up for additional trainings to gain access to different areas of their space.
For more information about Maker's Edge, including physical address, hours of operation, and a full listing of tools and spaces, visit http://www.themakersedge.com/
Already used your once-per-semester monthly pass but need more time?
For particularly ambitious makers, we offer a "Maker's Edge Membership Grant" that will grant you one additional month-long membership in exchange for some level of collaboration with the Experiential Learning Commons in the Moody Library. Depending on your project, we may ask you to exhibit some of your work in our space or possibly teach a small workshop covering some of the skills involved. There are many possibilities!
