Accessing Theses and Dissertations
Should you require access to unpublished theses or dissertations for your research, the databases listed on this page will help you determine what resources are available on your topic.
In some cases you will be able to access the full text of the manuscript directly from your browser.
In others you will need to access a print copy of the resource. For short term needs, you may wish to request the loan of a dissertation or thesis by submittine an InterLibrary Loan request through OsoFast.
Or for unlimited access to a particular title, you may wish to purchase your own copy through ProQuest/UMI. Click the preceding link and follow the instructions in the "Place an Order" column of the screen.
Thesis and Dissertation Databases
- DART-Europe : e-theses portal This link opens in a new windowContains open-access theses, made available by research libraries and library consortia working together to improve global access to European research. Several universities have uploaded dissertations (from mostly more notable or important scholars) that were published in the 1500s and 1600s.
- ProQuest dissertations & theses global This link opens in a new windowIncludes citations to dissertations and theses from around the world from 1637. Each dissertation published since July 1980 includes a 350-word abstract written by the author. Master's theses published since 1988 include 150-word abstracts. Simple bibliographic citations are available for dissertations dating from 1637. The database offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997 and strong retrospective full-text coverage for older graduate works. Other dissertations and theses are available for purchase as printed copies. Included with this database is also ProQuest Dissertations and Theses - UK & Ireland.
- Dissertations & theses @ Baylor University Library This link opens in a new windowProvides access to Baylor dissertations and theses sent to University Microfilms, Inc. since about 1960. The full text of dissertations and theses (PDF files) written since 1996 is available at no charge to people enrolled at or employed by Baylor.
- EThOS : electronic theses online service : opening access to UK theses This link opens in a new windowMakes UK theses (electronic and paper based) available via a 'one-stop-shop' by harvesting e-theses from institutional repositories and digitizing paper theses on-demand from researchers. Some theses are available for immediate download, while others can be requested from a participating institution which then sends the thesis to the British Library for digitization. In order to download a thesis or request digitization, you must register with the site.
