The best way to find award winning children and young adult books through the library's resources is through the CLCD (database).
You can access this database by going to the library's website and selecting the databases tab. Type "CLCD" into the search box and hit GO.
From the results page, choose CLCD and log in with your Bear ID and password (if off campus or not already connected). Once you do that you'll see the advanced search page. This is where you can enter the book's title, author, or a general keyword, subject, book list, etc. and conduct your search. Be sure to select the checkbox for "awards & honors only" to include only items that have won an award or honor in your results list.
When you hit the magnifying glass you will see your results page. All of your results will have won at least one award or honor. The awards and honors are represented by the trophy icon in the item's record. Click on the title of the item and then select "honors, awards, prizes" to view all of the awards, honors, and prizes that this particular book has received.
There are two main ways to find professional reviews of children's and young adult materials using the library's resources. You can use OneSearch and read reviews within the item records for items that we have here at the library OR you can use the CLCD (database). This explanation will cover the use of CLCD for finding reviews.
The first step is to go to the library's website and select the "databases" tab. Then in the search box, enter "CLCD" and hit GO.
From the results page, choose CLCD and log in with your Bear ID and password (if off campus or not already connected). Once you do that you'll see the advanced search page. You can enter the book title, author, etc. into the search box and then check the box below for "professional reviews only." This will ensure that all of the results that appear provide professional reviews of the book within the record.
When you hit the magnifying glass to view your results you will see all of the books that meet your search criteria and include professional reviews. The reviews are represented by the piece of paper icon within the record. Click on the item title to see more information, including the reviews.
Once you click on the title you can see all of the professional reviews by clicking on "reviews."
