Museum Studies

Helpful Links

Staff in the library are happy to answer questions as you get started or set up individual appointments to help get you started on library resources.  Here are some links and tutorials you can explore to brush up on your searching skills.

How are things organized?

    • Materials are organized by the Library of Congress classification system.  Museum materials are located in the AM section; however, because museum studies is interdisciplinary, you may use other sections like "N" for art and architecture and "L" for education.

What databases can I access?

    • Database A-Z list.  From the subject list, choose "museum studies" to see just the resources for your discipline. You can also browse by content type or search for words in the title or description.

What if the libraries doesn't have a title I need?

    • OSOFast. Service of the Baylor Libraries that gets materials from other libraries for your use (traditionally known as interlibrary loan service, or ILL). For faculty and graduate students, OsoFast can also provide digital copies of print journal articles that we have here.

How long can I keep the items I check out?

Search Tips

Because museum studies materials require you to work with multiple disciplines and formats, we recommend you begin your search in the 'advanced search' mode of the online library catalog:  OneSearch

Tips:

  • limit by format at the beginning of your search to narrow your results (books, vertical files, etc.)
  • use an asterisk to truncate words that might have multiple endings (harmon* )
  • If you want books about an author or topic, select the search field "subject"
