This picture Bible was created in the 13th century.  An hand-carved ivory plate on the cover  portrays the Nativity on the front and the Crucifixion on the back.

Peterborough Bestiary

The Peterborough Bestiary is a manuscript created in 1300 containing both imaginary and real animals in stories illustrating moral lessons.  The Bestiary was popular with both Christian and secular audiences.
