Welcome! When you are looking for a musical score in the online catalog, you may get many search results for a single piece. This is because the music library holds several different editions of that piece. Why? And how do you know which one you need?
This guide will introduce you to the main categories of musical score editions and help you search for and find them at the library and online. Whether you are a performer, conductor, composer, educator, historian, or theorist, being aware of the different kinds of editions and being able to discern which ones best fit your needs is crucial both during your time at Baylor and beyond.
This library guide is part of our “spotlight on the disciplines” literacy tier. In this tier you will be introduced to advanced academic research skills. These skills are developed by working with research librarians in upper-level courses specific to their discipline. The spotlight represents the in-depth instruction, library guides, advanced search strategies, and research consultations provided by the research & engagement librarians.
