Library Resources for New Nursing Faculty: How Can My Students Get Help?

Nursing LRC - Academic Building

Contact a Nursing librarian

Recommend making an appointment with the Nursing Librarian.  A Nursing librarian can help students with a plan for their research papers, projects or literature reviews, point them to specialized subject databases or other research materials, help them set up citation management software and other research organizational tools.  The Nursing Librarian is here to help!

Take the Introduction to Library Research Tutorial

The tutorial described below is a general one, not related specifically to Nursing. It is an excellent introduction to the overall process of using library resources to conduct research. For more Nursing discipline-specific information, contact the Nursing Librarian.

The Central Libraries has published a self-paced tutorial which guides a student through an introduction to the library, its resources and the research process.  At the end of the tutorial, there is a quiz.  If you want, you can assign it as a class exercise.  Please contact Ellen Hampton Filgo, Assistant Director for Liaison Services, if you would like to get a copy of the quiz in a format that can be uploaded into Canvas and graded there.

Have a Nursing Librarian come to your class for research instruction

If your class has a major research component to it, or if you would like your students to

  • get a general introduction to the Nursing LRC and its resources
  • learn how to effectively find, access, and evaluate quality books, articles and more
  • learn about specific scholarly resources or primary source materials that would be helpful for an assignment
  • learn how to use a bibliographic citation management tool like RefWorks
