LDJIT: Learning Design Just-in-Time

Rethinking the Sync

Rethinking the Sync

This module introduces faculty to a whole new level of thinking about synchronous teaching in the hybrid and online classroom. Faculty utilize pedagogy and course design for their online courses but fail to further expand on synchronous learning.

Synchronous learning done right increases camaraderie and a deep sense of community. You will explore more about synchronous learning strategies that are easy to implement in your classroom and hopefully will help you to rethink the sync!

According to Neria Sebastien, “Instructors should try a different approach that increases motivation in classroom activities and assignments—shifting the role of the instructor in synchronous classrooms to a moderator and centering the student's voice” (2021).
