JOU 3374 Public Relations Writing

Step 1: Problem Formulation

The first step in this process is defining the problem you are trying to address.

Think about the following:

  • What is the product, service, business or person?
  • What are you trying to write? (blog post, newsletter, talking points, email pitch)
  • Who are you writing it to? (customers, press, influencers, investors)
  • What tone do you need to take in your writing? (informal, funny, optimistic, professional)

Step 2: AI Tool Selection

Consider this list of generative AI tools that you could use.  Which one would be the best tool to address your problem?

Generative AI tools can be classified into two main categories: grounded and non-grounded, based on how they access data:

  • Non-Grounded Tools:
These tools generate responses based only on their training data and do not access real-time, external sources. They are best for tasks that rely on creativity or work based on existing knowledge.

  • Grounded Tools:
These tools combine training data with real-time, external information, providing more accurate and up-to-date responses. They are ideal for tasks that require real-time data, research, or fact-checking.

Do you know of another tool that you think might be useful?  Try that one out as well!

Step 3: Interaction

Interact with your chosen AI tool (feel free to try several if one isn't working how you thought).

Consider:

  • Changing your prompt
  • Evaluating different results from different prompts
  • The quality and accuracy of the output
  • Potential biases in the response

Keep a record of prompts that you think are more successful!

Note any biases or inaccuracies in the responses.

Step 4: Reflection

Spend a few minutes filling out the form that guides you to reflect on your interaction with the AI Tool.
