Fishing the Local Pond: BU Libraries Resources

Casting Wider Nets: Searching Beyond BU Libraries Holdings

Sometimes what's available locally just isn't enough. No matter how well funded, no library has everything. For those occasions when discovering everything available on your topic is the priority, here are some good places (besides Google) to search:

Union Catalogs National or consortial databases that attempt to cover the published literature comprehensively and exhaustively. Locating material of a given national provenance or
Library of Congress Catalog National union catalog of all items published in the United States or by US authors. Locating fugitive material of known or suspected US provenance.
British Library Catalog National union catalog of all items published in the Great Britain or by British authors. Locating fugitive material of known or suspected British provenance.
OCLC WorldCat International consortial union catalog of academic, national, state and public libraries (currently the largest in existence). Comprehensive searching for published materials.
HathiTrust Consortial union catalog of academic libraries in the United States. Locating the full text of orphaned works (works so old and obscure that copyright ownership cannot be determined).
