Radical Reformation/Anabaptist studies: Encyclopedias and dictionaries

Reference Resources

Subject Encyclopedias serve several useful purposes for those getting started on a research topic that is new or unfamiliar: a) the articles overview important aspects of the topic (history, development of ideas), b) introduce key people c) introduce technical vocabulary and concepts d) often include helpful bibliographies with which to begin your search for relevant materials.

Articles from the following resources provide a useful orientation to the issues and people associated with the Anabaptist movement. The Mennonite Encyclopedia represents an official 'living voice' of the Anabaptist tradition.

Throughout its history, the movement has been in contact with the wider traditions of western Christianity. The two other resources included provide articles on the movement from mainline Protestant and Roman Catholic perspectives.
