Book of Kells
The Book of Kells is a book of the four gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke and John) created in approximately 800. It contains the oldest existing depiction of the Virgin Mary and child in a Western manuscript. It was stolen from the Irish monastery in which it was created in a Viking raid and later found buried with it's jeweled cover removed.
Lorsch Gospels
The Lorsch Gospels is a manuscript of the Mathew, Mark, Luke and John created around 810 for special occasions in the Lorsch Abbey. Decorated in gold, silver and purple, the covers were made of ivory with carvings of the Virgin on the front and Christ on the back.
