Award Level and Expectations (2024 update)

Award Level Award Amount Expectations
Level 1: Adoption $4,000

Locate, evaluate, and adopt an existing Open Educational Resource (OER) as a swap-out replacement for the required course textbook. Minimal course design adjustment is needed.

OR

Locate, evaluate, and use public domain or library-sourced materials to replace the required course textbook. Minimal course design adjustment is needed.

Level 2:  Adaptation $5,000

Adapt, update, or combine existing Open Educational Resources into a new OER to replace the required course textbook and make notable changes to the course's design to accommodate the new material. Initial consultation with a Learning Experience Designer is expected. Adapted OER will have an appropriate Creative Commons license and be shared with external users through an appropriate repository within one year of implementation.

OR

Locate, evaluate, and use public domain or library-sourced materials to replace the required course textbook and make notable changes to the course's design to accommodate the new material. Initial consultation with a Learning Experience Designer is expected. 

Level 3: OER Supplementary Content Creation $6,000 Create a new open educational resource that supplements the required textbook used in your course. The new resource will have an appropriate Creative Commons license and be shared with external users through an appropriate repository within one year of implementation.
Level 4: Original OER Creation $9,000 Create a new open educational resource with an appropriate Creative Commons license assigned to replace the currently required textbook used in your course. The new OER will be shared publicly with external users through an appropriate repository within one year of implementation.

What are the expectations of a grant recipient?

Program Launch During Upon Completion
Attend an orientation workshop to meet other members of that year's cohort and discuss the timeline expected for awarded projects.  Meet with the subject liaison librarian according to the agreed-upon schedule. Publish any OER created through the grant in an open, editable format (if applicable).
Meet with the subject liaison librarian to discuss project parameters and identify progress milestones with a timeline for completion. Establish a follow-up schedule to monitor progress. Participate in and complete required workshops and training sessions. Publish any OER created through the grant with an open (Creative Commons) license that allows further adaptation (if applicable)
Meet with a Learning Experience Designer to discuss project parameters and complete an initial assessment of pedagogical impact. Participate in recommended workshops and seminars on OER and other related topics offered on campus Store a copy of any OER created through the grant in the BearDocs repository (or OERTX?) (if applicable)
  Meet with assigned Learning Experience Designer (if applicable) Use the materials produced through the grant in a credit-bearing course no later than the spring semester after receipt of the award (within one calendar year of funding), and for at least two terms after completion of the project.
    Submit a written impact assessment after the the two terms are completed.
    Submit an evaluation of the Fellows Program.

 

What support will the University Libraries and other partners provide?

To facilitate your work as a grant recipient, we will provide the following support services:

  • Assistance with searching for open educational resources, library materials, and public domain sources
  • Copyright and Creative Commons licensing guidance
  • Pressbooks account access
  • Assistance with archiving work in OERTX or other appropriate repositories (if applicable)
  • Assistance with Leganto and/or Canvas integration as needed
  • Host workshops and training sessions periodically throughout the year
  • Learning Experience Designer consulting support (including course redesign, accessibility compliance, etc.)
